Why become a

FoRISK National Focal Point?

Forests across Europe are increasingly exposed to wildfires, storms, pests, diseases and other climate-related disturbances that do not stop at national borders. FoRISK brings countries together to improve prevention, preparedness and risk management through cooperation, knowledge exchange and sustainable forest management. As a National Focal Point (NFP), your country becomes part of a growing pan-European network committed to building more resilient forests and forest sectors.

Benefits of Being a National Focal Point

Shape the Future of European Forest Risk Management

National Focal Points help identify emerging challenges and priorities, ensuring that national experiences and needs contribute to the development of FoRISK’s work programme and strategic direction.

Access a Pan-European Network of Expertise

Join a community of policymakers, forest authorities, practitioners and experts working on forest-related risks. Benefit from regular exchanges, workshops, training opportunities and collaborative initiatives across Europe.

Strengthen International Cooperation

Act as the bridge between FoRISK, national institutions and relevant stakeholders. National Focal Points facilitate knowledge sharing, cooperation and alignment between national and international efforts on forest resilience.

Support National Priorities Through Shared Knowledge

Gain access to experiences, good practices and lessons learned from other countries facing similar challenges. This helps strengthen national approaches to wildfire prevention, storm preparedness, pest outbreaks and other forest-related risks.

Connect National Experts to European Action

National Focal Points can nominate experts to FoRISK’s thematic expert groups, helping ensure that scientific and technical knowledge contributes directly to European cooperation and practical solutions. Current thematic areas include:

Increase Visibility and Leadership

By nominating a National Focal Point, countries demonstrate their commitment to proactive and collaborative forest risk management. NFPs also have the opportunity to contribute to governance processes and participate in the strategic development of FoRISK, including through the Steering Committee.

Who Can Become a National Focal Point?

Each FOREST EUROPE Signatory participating in FoRISK is invited to nominate an official National Focal Point who serves as the primary contact between the country and the FoRISK Secretariat. The NFP represents national interests within FoRISK and helps connect relevant authorities, institutions and experts to the initiative’s activities.
